thanks for pointing this out. The description in the tutorial is wrong! There it even says that you could select MaxDB, so I suspect that this is a copy/paste error from another tutorial about creating a database schema for use with a Java application. I opened an internal ticket for this to be corrected.
Please use 'HANA XS (<shared>)' to follow the tutorial as described.
You can also use 'HANA MDC (<trial>)' to create XS applications. However you would need to adjust a little bit, because the MDC trial instances are more like the productive instances.
